uS11 one of a few ribosomal proteins that maintain structure of ribosomal drug-binding sites. Thus, in archaea and eukaryotic, uS11 carries a C-terminal extension that occupies the mRNA-binding channel and lies in a close proximity to cryptopleurine- and emetineribosome-binding sites (1). Mutations in this C-terminal segment of uS11 confer resistance to these antibiotics (2).
